[ Not so Ugly ]

We've all heard about the success of Betty La Fea, in its Colombian, Mexican and now recognized by the Americans in the Gold Globe, but I do not think Betty (the american version) is so ugly as she is ridiculous. I didn't watch any of the telenovelas before mentioned, but tried to watch it in English due to my latin heritage, instead of enpowering I found it ridiculous, predictable and quite juvenile. Every now and then I am victim of my own curiosity and take a peek at the show, and end up changing the channel only after a few minutes. Failing to see what the appeal is (Salma?), the show feeds the latin stereotypes north america has. I have to admit I don't know what the series will end in, nor I care; but I can see the Swan effect taking place. It will be better that they left her fat, "ugly" and her own fashion sense untouched. Maybe then the public would start to get that being different is acceptable.
